The Elberfelder Bible is a German translation that was first published in 1855 (New Testament) and 1871 (Old Testament). While it has not achieved the same level of dissemination as the Luther Bible, it has garnered many admirers over time due to its literal translation approach and faithfulness to the original text. Emphasizing fidelity over linguistic elegance, it has served as a model for numerous subsequent translations.

Its name, Elberfelder Bible, originated from the significant portion of the translation work carried out in Elberfeld (a district of Wuppertal since August 1, 1929). The driving forces behind the translation were Julius Anton von Poseck, Carl Brockhaus, and John Nelson Darby. Consequently, the Elberfelder Bible was initially closely linked to the Brethren Movement and Dispensationalism.
